For over 100 years the world has relied on Rudolf Diesel’s engine, and petroleum-derived diesel fuel. In the last 20 years countries have experimented with bio-diesels, produced from crops to augment fossil fuels. This experiment is now reaching the limits of what it can achieve, constrained in every directions in terms of arable land, biodiversity, human food, blending limits in oil refineries and the necessity for clean air. There is no way for current commercial alternatives to deliver Sweden’s environmental targets of a 70% reduction in GHG from transport. A new solution is required. It should be a Swedish one, that we can export to the world - bioDME.
